Marsha's Big Adventure

On September 5th I started out for Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  My LNS, Keepsakes, is celebrating 15 years in business.  Every 5 years the owners host a nice big trip. This year was a trip to The Lighthouse Inn in West Dennis on the Cape.  I started my trip early.  My brother and his family live in and around Attleboro.  He was not able to attend the wedding in May because of work commitments.  My nephew and his wife were not able to attend due to an impending birth.  I wanted to spend some time with them before the celebration started. 

Here's my DB, Craig, holding the newest member of the Zimmerman clan, Ronan.  He never once opened his eyes but it was such a joy to hold a tiny baby.  I passed him on to my brother as Ronan's big brother, Declan, wanted my attention.  

Declan is a ball of energy as are most 2 year olds.  We played Toy Story and my job was to keep putting Woody onto the dinosaur. It reminded me of playing with Star Wars figures with my boys.

 Here's new mommy, Amy, feeding the very sleepy Ronan.  He didn't even open his eyes to eat.  Amy looks amazing.  I know I didn't look that good 1 1/2 months after giving birth.  It was a great visit.  I'm so happy I got to visit with everyone.

  

Here is a picture of The Lighthouse Inn.  The main building has the office and the dining room.  There are cottages scattered around the property and one longer building with about 10 hotel like rooms.  If your cottage has a fireplace, someone will come and light a fire for you.  It's very homey.

Our rooms were well appointed and flowers greeted us with a small cooler gift bag.

I really can't share any stitching photos for you.  I wasn't in a stitching mood when I was there.  It's too exciting being at the ocean.

Our first full day included a trip to a gallery/tea room for tea.  Here's Barb our hostess.  Isn't she lovely.  She busily stitched the first part of the Lizzie Kate Christmas mystery SAL during the week and completed it.

I spent another afternoon and evening driving off and onto the Cape so I could visit with my SIL, her best friend and my niece. One day I went to Sandwich to visit the Sandwich Glass Museum.  I got to see a glass blower and beautiful displays of glass.  An antique mall also called my name. Nothing struck  my fancy but it was fun to browse.

My favorite meal - Lobstah!! and real Italian cannolis for dessert.  Oh my goodness, I was in heaven.  I miss those cannollis on the East coast.

It was a relaxing vacation.  I enjoyed it very much.  2162 miles later I pulled into my driveway. It was a wonderful BIG adventure.

Sewy pictures

As you know, my son got married on Memorial Day weekend. What you don't know is that I got a phone call last Dec. from my DS.  It was around 1:00 eastern standard time, my time, and 10:00 Pacific time, his time. The conversation went something like this. 'Hi Mom!' 'Hi Adam, how are you'?' 'I'm fine. Ahhh, I think I might have forgotten to tell you something.' 'Oh, what's that?' 'Well (insert nervous chuckle), I'm getting married today.' 'WHAT!!!!'  'Yeah, well, it's 12/12/12 and we're getting married at 12:12.' 'OH!' Pause..... 'Well, yes, you did forget to tell us that. Ahhh, I guess congratulations and best wishes!'

So, dear Adam and Lauren have two days to celebrate an anniversary. So, I made them a quilt. Or, I should say, I'm making them a quilt. Here it is at The Loveland Quilt shop. I picked out thread, batting and quilting pattern and they will sandwich it and quilt it for me. Then I will bind it and hopefully have it completed for their first anniversary. If not, I guess I can complete it by their second, first anniversary.

It's sewn from aboriginal and batik fabrics. Once it's completed I'll take better pictures. This is quilt number three and the second using the Five and Dime pattern. Time to move on to a different pattern.

I completed my new bag. It is Penny Sturgis's pattern, Bow Tucks bag. I highly recommend her patterns. They are easy to follow and not complicated.  The fabric was part of my stash haul from Paducah, KY.

I've been acquiring some new quilt books.  I focused my stash hall in the back room of Hancock's in Paducah on vintage prints.  I love the tiny vintage prints.  They remind me of my grandma's quilts.  Soon I will have enough fat quarters to try my hand on a different quilt pattern. 

Diane, over at Nan's Needlework Notions , sent me this kit.  It is so cute.  I will have it stitched up in no time and can't wait to display it for the fall season.  Thank you  Diane - waving!

Blogger is still giving me fits.  This post took three weeks to get put up.  I have a new computer but it has windows 8 and I'm not ready to tackle blogging on it yet.  I will limp along for a little while longer.  Maybe by the middle of Oct. I'll be ready to give it a whirl.  I have loads of stuff to share.

A Little Fish Story

I am having the worst time blogging!  I could not get the cursor at the top to show up and this is where it ended up!  This is my 5th time trying today.  So, I give up. 

Two weeks ago I took a short vacation with two friends to Kentucky Lake.  Way at the bottom of KY.   My friend, Judy, has a condo there with her DH.  She's the driver of the  boat.  The first day was too windy to go on the lake so we ended up shopping and going to Hancock's fabrics in Paducah.  WOW!  My friends don't sew and they were so sweet to take me there and let me shop my fool head off.  I bought some wonderful fabric and we were ready to go when Judy (bless her sweet heart) asked if I was sure I went in the back area.  She made me go back and check it out.  WOW!  Rows of fat quarters, charm packs, layer cakes, jelly rolls.  Oh my goodness.  More damage to the wallet but it was so worth it.  The next day was spent on the lake.  Darlene really wanted to fish.  I couldn't let her fish alone.  She caught the large mouth bass.  I was ready to quit and decided two more tries and that's it!  Don't you know I caught a catfish on my last try.  We headed in, learned how to clean them, and cooked them on the grill.  MMMM, mmmm.  They were tasty!

Now, if I can get blogger to work, I'll do another post soon with sewy pictures.
